SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Saturday compared the militancy in with communalization in region, saying both are equally responsible to create disturbance in the state.

“Some people are hell-bent to create disturbance in Kashmir by resorting to strikes. Even if there is no causality in retaliation of forces firing still these people raise old issues like Sainik colonies, Pandit colonies and give calls for strikes which create disturbance in the Valley. We have a limited season for works in Kashmir and these strikes hit the developmental works badly,” Mehbooba Mufti said in her closing remarks in the Upper House as Legislative Council was adjourned sine die.

“Like militancy in Kashmir, the attempts of communalization in Jammu region is equally hitting our and bringing inconveniences to the people. The militancy in Kashmir and communalization of Jammu are equally responsible for creating disturbance in the state. The people of Jammu should be aware of the miscreants who intend to communalize the situation in the region. They should not give communal elements a chance to communalize the region,” Mehbooba said, apparently referring to some recent incidents in Jammu region, where some people were provoking communal tension.

The Chief Minister said the Muslims and Hindus have maintained communal harmony in the Jammu region. “The PDP and BJP made an alliance so that people stay united and people of all communities live with communal harmony. In Kashmir, most of the people are Muslims and communal tension does not arise here, but in Jammu, the Hindus and Muslims are almost in equal number. So don't give miscreants chance to create the disturbance in the state.”

Comparing Indian Parliament with the JK Legislative Assembly and Council, Mehbooba said only this state has the distinction of making its own laws like the Parliament unlike other states of the country. “We have different issues due to disturbance for the last 20-years. We faced immense challenges over the years. NC, Congress, BJP, PDP and other people have rendered immence sacrifices over the years to bring peace in the state.  Now we have responsibilities to consolidate more.. Two decades before, people were scared to come out for the vote and MLAs were not visiting their constituency. But today, people have confidence on the institution. We offer prayers and constructing Mosques and Temples but forget other duties. It is our duty to install a sense of security among the people for which everyone has to play its role.”

Referring to a suicide bid by an IAS officer and legislators had demanded to act against another IAS officer who was allegedly involved in the suicide attempt of the female officer, the Chief Minister said, “Don't get you private lives into public. Have some control on your actions. Make both the personal and public life separate. Personal life should not come in public. We are part of one system and we should control on our actions which will maintain the respect in the society. It should not be done and will not be tolerated,”

The Chief Minister said the opposition has a constructive role to play in the democratic institution of the state. “Mufti Sahab used to say that democracy is incomplete till there is a formidable opposition. Only the strong opposition makes the government more accountable. So it is also very important that ministers and bureaucracy takes the concerns of the member very seriously.”

She said yesterday one of her colleague had held hands incorrectly during prayers which was blown out of proportion. “Whether she did right or wrong that is between her and Allah but we have other duties which are directly linked with the people and we don't take them seriously.”

She asked the ministers and the officers to work honesty to ensure good governance is prevailed in the state.  The Chief Minister said her government is trying to back the system at the track and ensure developmental works are completed within the time frame-work.
