Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Praises RSS, Promotes Khadi, Pushes Chhath for UNESCO

New Delhi, Sept 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 125th edition of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, spoke about the upcoming 100th year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), encouraged citizens to buy Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti, and shared that the government is working to get Chhath Puja recognised by UNESCO.

Modi praised the RSS for its service to society, noting the organisation’s “spirit of selfless service” and discipline. He remembered RSS founders KB Hedgewar and Guru Golwalkar, highlighting their efforts to foster national service, and acknowledged the Sangh volunteers’ prompt aid during natural disasters.

On festivals, the prime minister said Chhath Puja reflects India’s culture and traditions and is being proposed for UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. “When this will happen, people in various corners of the world will be able to experience the festival’s grandeur and divinity,” he said, noting that Kolkata’s Durga Puja has already been included.

Modi urged citizens to support Swadeshi by purchasing Khadi items on October 2, stating that Khadi sales have grown significantly over the past 11 years.

The prime minister also spoke with two women navy officers, Lieutenant Commander Dilna and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, who participated in the Navika Sagar Parikrama. He paid tribute to Bhagat Singh and singer Lata Mangeshkar on their birth anniversaries, noting their enduring inspiration to Indians. (Agencies)
