New Delhi, Aug 19: The proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm today after Opposition members created an uproar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. When the House reassembled at 12 noon, and the presiding officer Krishna Prasad Tenneti called for the papers to be laid on the table of the House.
Meanwhile, commotion by the Opposition members over Bihar SIR continued.
While appealing to the agitating members to let the House function, Tenneti said, “I request all of you to kindly take your seat. We will take the proceedings further. I want to listen to you but not like this. Please go back to your chairs and then present, I will give you an opportunity to speak but not like this”.
When the sloganeering continued, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 pm.
Earlier too, the Lok Sabha witnessed unruly scene following which Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon.
As soon as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla commenced the session, he announced that the proceedings of the House would now be translated into all languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He said it is a matter of pride for us that this is the first Parliament in the world where proceedings are being translated into so many languages.
As the Question Hour began, Opposition members began shouting slogans and moved to the Well of the House. Amid the uproar, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, while responding to a supplementary question, said that the government is committed to the preservation and promotion of all languages.
Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in response to a supplementary question, stated that the funds given to the Tamil Nadu government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) were not utilised, due to which houses for the poor could not be constructed. He said this is a betrayal of the poor.
The uproar continued during the Question Hour, leading to the adjournment of the House till 12 noon.
