Kumari Selja, a Congress MP from Haryana, launched her party’s campaign for the upcoming state Assembly elections with a public march in Ambala district recently. During the campaign titled ‘Sandesh Yatra 2.0’, Selja was critical of the ruling BJP government’s handling of issues in Haryana.
Selja stated that ten years of BJP rule in the state has left people unhappy due to unpopular and harmful policies. She said common citizens, especially the poor, farmers and laborers, are facing difficulties in securing their rights. Farmers continue to struggle with low incomes and mounting debts, according to the Congress leader.
During the campaign event, senior Congress leader Birender Singh also targeted the BJP government. He claimed the state is in dire need of a change in leadership. Singh alleged the BJP makes false promises but fails to address pressing public concerns around livelihood and welfare.
Projecting Selja as the potential next Chief Minister, local Congress workers showed strong support for her leadership. However, banners and posters of party president Udai Bhan and former CM Bhupinder Hooda were notably missing at the campaign launch.
Going forward, Selja said the Congress will take Rahul Gandhi’s message of change to every corner of Haryana. People across the state seem prepared to vote out the BJP in the upcoming polls and choose the Congress instead, according to the MP. She is confident the party will form the next state government.
The Assembly elections in Haryana are scheduled before November this year. With her latest tour, Kumari Selja appears to have officially started the Congress campaign to challenge the incumbent BJP. The next few months will witness intense political battling across the state ahead of the crucial polls.
