    Kedarnath Temple to reopen on April 22

    Rudraprayag: The portals of Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas will reopen for devotees on April 22 at 8 am after the six-month winter closure, officials of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee said on Sunday.

    The auspicious date and timing were decided on Mahashivratri at the shrine’s winter seat, Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, following rituals and panchang calculations by priests and scholars, committee PRO Harish Gaur said.

    The ceremony at Omkareshwar Temple, decorated with flowers, was attended by Kedarnath chief priest Rawal Bhimashankar Ling, Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal, Temple Committee chairman Hemant Dwivedi, religious leaders and hundreds of devotees, who offered prayers and raised chants of “Jai Baba Kedar.”

    With the reopening date announced, the schedule for the Char Dham Yatra has also been finalised. The portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples will open on April 19 on Akshaya Tritiya, followed by Badrinath Temple on April 23. (Agencies)
