Political crisis in Kargil
Ladakh, June 20, CNS: In a significant development, Councilor Yourbaltak constituency Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan Monday withdrew his support from the present local government Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) led by Haji Muhammad Hanifa Jan.
Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan in a written communiqué to Deputy Commissioner Kargil has stated that he has withdrawn his support from the present dispensation.
The withdrawing of the support from the Khan has rendered the present dispensation led by National Conference Chief Executive Councilor out of majority. Last year, the Congress party had lost the post of Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil to National Conference by one vote when National Conference candidate for post of the CEC, Haji Muhammad Hanifa Jan, an Independent Councilor from Baroo constituency polled 15 votes while his rival and Congress candidate Advocate Mohammad Aamir, also an Independent Councilor from Khangral got 14 votes in the Council of 30, which had one vacancy.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil Ghulam Hasan Khan confirmed that Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan has withdrawn support to present dispensation. He told CNS that the district administration will make state government aware about this development and in coming days, Haji Muhammad Hanifa Jan led NC dispensation will be asked to prove his majority.
In the present dispensation the National Conference had 15 Councilors including four independent members while Congress enjoys the support of 14 members. After the support withdrawn by Kachoo, both NC and Congress have now 14 members each in the executive council. (CNS)
