Jammu, Jan 11: A 16-year-old boy was killed after the rifle of his father, a Village Defence Guard (VDG), accidentally went off at their residence in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at Loyee Dhar village in the Mughal Maidan area. Officials said VDG member Pyare Lal was cleaning his rifle at around 9.30 pm when it accidentally discharged, hitting his son, Anuj Kumar.
The teenager, a Class 10 student, died on the spot due to the gunshot injury, officials said.
Soon after the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Chatroo hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said inquest proceedings have been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accidental firing. The weapon involved has been seized and sent for forensic examination, while statements of the family members are being recorded as part of the investigation. (Agencies)
