JAMMU, Apr 12: A massive search operation was launched in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir after suspicious movement of two unidentified persons was reported near the International Border, officials said on Sunday.
The joint operation, involving police, the Indian Army and the Border Security Force, is underway in Pangdour, SIDCO forest and adjoining areas, including Basantar Nallah.
According to officials, a caretaker at an animal farm spotted two suspected individuals in Pangdour around 8.30 pm on Saturday, prompting immediate action by security forces. However, the suspects could not be traced initially.
Later, a Special Operations Group (SOG) team of the local police reportedly noticed the same individuals moving towards the SIDCO forest around 1.30 am. When challenged, the suspects fled into the forest area.
Reinforcements from police and the Army were rushed to the spot, and the area was cordoned off for a thorough search operation, which was ongoing at the time of last reports.
The BSF also joined the operation, focusing on the Basantar Nallah area, while additional checkpoints were set up at Khoon village to monitor and search vehicles passing through the route.
