J&K govt to spend Rs 500 cr on horticulture development

Srinagar, June 14 (PTI) and government will spend Rs 500 crore from the Prime Minister's Development Package for the state on development of Horticulture sector.

“Under PM's package, Rs 500 crore would be spent on Horticulture sector in the state,” Minister for Production Ghulam Nabi Lone said while replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly here.

Lone informed the House that crop loss of Rs 1568 crore was assessed by the Department of Revenue for Horticulture sector due to incessant rains and floods of September 2014.

He said 50 per cent compensation of Rs 784 crore was recommended by the Revenue Department and was included in memorandum submitted to the Central Government but funds have not been received.

The Minister said a joint survey was conducted by the field functionaries of Horticulture and Revenue officials to assess the losses.

He said the government would also take steps for rejuvenation of flood affected and old orchards in the state.
