Srinagar, Mar 22: Days after a man was detained in Srinagar for allegedly trying to incite sectarian division on social media, police in Anantnag have registered a case against individuals attempting to give a sectarian color to a recent murder.
An FIR (No. 57/2025) was filed at Police Station Anantnag, following concerns that some individuals were trying to manipulate the tragic murder case in Kokernag to fuel sectarian tensions. “Anantnag Police has registered an FIR against individuals attempting to give a sectarian colour to the recent tragic incident,” said police in an official statement.
Authorities have emphasized their commitment to a fair, impartial investigation, stressing that attempts to spread baseless narratives and incite communal discord will not be tolerated. “Strict legal action will be taken against those disturbing public peace,” police officials stated.
Police have urged the public to avoid spreading misleading information and maintain peace. “Law enforcement agencies are diligently working to ensure justice while maintaining communal harmony in the region,” the statement continued.
The case stems from the abduction and murder of an Anantnag girl, which was cracked by the police on March 19. The accused, a resident of Srinagar, was arrested shortly after. The following day, another individual was detained in Srinagar for allegedly attempting to create sectarian division through social media posts.
The police reiterated their efforts to protect public peace and uphold justice.
