JK Cop suspended after Video taking bribe goes viral

NEW DELHI:  A traffic policeman from & has been suspended after a video of him taking a bribe made it to social media. The minute-long video was posted by multiple news platforms in Kashmir on Thursday. In the video, the cop hints the driver to pay a bribe in order to avoid paying a fine for wearing a Pheran, a traditional Kashmiri cloak, while driving. The driver can be heard questioning the cop as he claims to have all the proper documents.

“Who told you to wear a pheran? I will photograph it and send it to the judge along with the challan. I will tell him (judge) that he (driver) is driving an LP (long platform) truck wearing a pheran. Is it justified?” the officer is heard warning the driver. There is no official rule against truck drivers wearing the pheran while driving in the state.

The officer then tells the driver that wearing the pheran while driving is not permitted and then hints at the bribe. “We have friendship with you (drivers). Why should we fine you?”, he says.

The police officer then lets the driver go after he hands him a currency note.
