J&K Climbing team leaves for NZ Champ

, Sept 29: The 12 member team of Mountaineering Association of J&K  (MAJK), including an official left today for Delhi to participate in the 27th North Zone Sport Climbing Championship, scheduled to be held at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) Climb Central Delhi from October one to October three.

The new look team led by Shilpa Charak, the senior most sport climber of

J&K, comprised eight boys and three girls in five categories of Men, Women, Junior Boys, Sub Junior Boys and Sub Junior Girls. Whereas only one climber each has been selected in the Men's and Women's categories respectively, Junior and Sub Junior Boys have strength of four and three climbers respectively.  The Team: Men: Arun Deep Singh. Women: Shilpa Charak. Sub Junior Boys: Kafeel Ul Haq of Pulwama, Aryan Rauthan of Army Public School, Damana, Jammu. 3. Ankit Singh of St. Xavier Sr. Secondary School, Jammu.

Junior Boys: Kashish Bharti of Udhamour. 2.Saksham Slathia of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu. 3. Prince Thakur of Academy High School, Udhampur. Sub Junior Girls: Ayaana Bhagat of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu. Jeevika Verma of St. Xavier Senior Secondary School, Jammu. The almost new look team is a blend of experience and fresh talent.

Whereas Shilpa Charak and Arun Deep are experienced climbers who have won innumerable medals at the Zonal and national level all the other climbers are very talented but shall be competing at the zonal level for the first time. The team is expected to perform well. Whereas Shilpa Charak shall be the coach cum player Syed Abdul Mohsin, Joint Secretary of division of Mountaineering Association of J&K, is the manager of the team. The team has been sponsored by J&K Council. After the North Zone competition a 26 member team of IMF North Zone Committee shall be selected for participation in the National (Inter Zonal) Climbing Championship to be held in the last week of October. Earlier, the members of Mountaineering Association of J&K and Tawi Trekkers J&K led by Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary of India and Ashwani Sharma a former MLA, gave an emotional send off to the team. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Ram Khajuria, senior vice president; Sumit Khajuria, Vice President; Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK); Prof. C K Khajuria, Principal, Govt Degree College, Katra, a former General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Rakesh Goswami, President, Jammu District Mountaineering Association.
