Jammu Tourism to hold Kite flying competition on Aug 28

Jammu is set to organize a day long Kite Flying competition culture almost after a gap of six years in Jammu on August 28.

“The Kite flying competition is being organized with an aim of promoting tourism and also to engage the youth,” Sheena Sahni, Assistant Director, Tourism, told UNI.

Earlier the kite flying competition was organized in the year 2015.

“The competition will be organized at the River Tawi Front,” she revealed.

Jammu and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on August 18 during his visit to Katra town—the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi–had said that the government is looking forward to organizing a three-month long festival to popularize various tourist destinations.

“Kite flying is like a festival in Jammu from Rakshabandhan to Janamashtami and as a part of three month long upcoming festival, the department thought of initiating with the revival of this culture and the competition was finalized,” said the Officer.

Enthusiasts from all age groups can participate in the competition while plastic string commonly known as gattu (Chinese thread) will not be permitted. The winner will also be suitably rewarded.

“We are planning that this activity be included in an annual calendar,” she said.

To boost tourism, upcoming events of Jammu Tourism also included a festival at Patnitop in September, trekking camps in seven districts of Jammu division and several water activities in Ranjit Sagar Lake of Basholi in Kathua district.
