Jammu-Srinagar highway reopened for one-way traffic

, Mar 1 (PTI) The 300-km Jammu-Srinagar highway was reopened for one-way traffic after being blocked due to massive landslides on the Banihal-Ramban stretch.

“The highway was reopened for vehicular traffic after the blockade caused by massive landslide in Banihal-Ramban stretch was removed today,” a traffic police official said.

He said one-way traffic on the highway from Jammu to Srinagar has been allowed for the stranded vehicles.

There were over 1,000 vehicles stranded at various stretches of the highway since yesterday following landslide.

The highway was closed due to massive landslide triggered by rains at Mehar in Ramban district on Monday night.

Almost the entire stretch of the highway here has come under huge boulders and debris.

The men and machines of the BRO have worked round-the- clock to clear the highway of debris.

To the ease traffic on the highway, authorities are likely to open the newly-built 9.5 km Chenani-Nashri tunnel.
