J&K Clinches 2nd Prize in R-Day Tableau; Navy Tops Marching Contingent

New Delhi, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir secured the second prize in the states and Union Territories tableau category at this year’s Republic Day Parade, while the Indian Navy was adjudged the best marching contingent among the three wings of the armed forces, officials said on Wednesday.

Maharashtra won the top honour in the state tableau category for its Ganeshotsav-themed presentation, followed by Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala. The Ministry of Culture’s tableau celebrating the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram emerged as the winner in the ministries and departments category, while Delhi Police was named the best marching contingent among Central Armed Police Forces and auxiliary forces.

Navy officials said the service’s marching contingent comprised 144 young personnel who marched shoulder-to-shoulder on Kartavya Path, reflecting a progressive and strong maritime force.

Jammu and Kashmir’s tableau earning the second prize highlighted the Union Territory’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, drawing appreciation from spectators and the jury alike.

Maharashtra’s tableau showcased a blend of tradition and modernity, portraying Ganeshotsav as a symbol of self-reliance, with women artistes performing the folk dance Lezim alongside the float.

The Culture Ministry’s tableau, themed “Vande Mataram: The Soul-Cry of a Nation,” depicted the song’s composition by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, its historic recording by Marathi artiste Vishnupant Pagnis, the sacrifices of freedom fighters and a striking image of Bharat Mata holding the Tricolour.

In the ‘Popular Choice’ category, the Assam Regiment and CRPF were voted the best marching contingents, while Gujarat topped the tableau category. The award presentation ceremony will be held on January 30. (Agencies)
