    Isolated rain, thunderstorms expected in J&K over next 24 hours

    Srinagar, Apr 3: Jammu and Kashmir is set to experience isolated light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, ranging from 40 to 50 knots, over the next 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected at a few locations, particularly towards the late afternoon on Thursday.

    In the coming days, the region is likely to witness varying weather conditions. The Kashmir valley is expected to see generally cloudy skies, with the possibility of light rain and snow in the higher reaches, especially in North Kashmir and along the Sonamarg-Zojila axis on Thursday.

    From April 4 to 7, the weather is forecast to remain generally dry. However, by April 8, cloudy conditions are likely to return in the afternoon, bringing the chance of light snow over the higher reaches of North Kashmir and Sonamarg.

    Between April 9 and 10, light rain or snow is expected in many places in Kashmir, with scattered areas in the Jammu Division likely to receive similar weather conditions. On April 11, Kashmir is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with isolated light rain or snow in the morning, followed by a gradual improvement in weather.

    The MeT also reported that day temperatures have been 4-5°C above normal in most parts of Kashmir Division, and 2-3°C above normal in Jammu Division. Night temperatures were recorded as 0-1°C below normal in Kashmir Division and 0-2°C below normal in Jammu Division. The lowest night temperatures were noted at Gulmarg (1.0°C) in Kashmir and Banihal (6.1°C) in Jammu Division.
