Udaipur (Rajasthan), June 28:

In a bloodcurdling incident, Islamists mercilessly hacked a Tailor Kanhaiyalal Teli to death in his shop in a busy market in Udaipur for his social media post supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Two accused reached the victim's shop on Tuesday afternoon under Dhan Mandi police station area, police said. One of the assailants, who is identified as Riyaz, attacked Kanhaiya Lal with a sharp-edged weapon while the other recorded the crime on his mobile phone, police said.

Soon after, they circulated a video of themselves confessing to the killing on social media and threatened PM Modi's life as well.

Here's why they killed him

He had shared a social media post in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma a few days ago.

According to the market people, Kanahiya Lal reportedly also approached police and filed a complaint with them over the unending barrage of death threats he was receiving from the bloodthirsty mob of miscreants.

The killers barged into his shop in broad daylight and inflicted several cuts with a sharp weapon and slit his throat. Not only this, the blood-chilling act was video-graphed but the video has been posted online, where the assailants can be seen attacking the victim with sharp weapons.

Kanhaiyalal Teli, 40, was a tailor and owned a shop named Supreme Tailors near the Bhootmahal located in Dhanmandi. On Tuesday, two bike-borne miscreants stopped at his shop and entered inside. One after the other, they unleashed their murderous rage on Teli, attacking him with sharp weapons more than half a dozen times, leading to his death. Thereafter, the two miscreants fled away.

Tension in Udaipur

Locals protested after the incident that took place in broad daylight. Shops in Maldas street area of Udaipur have been closed following the incident.

Following the murder, local markets in the area were shut as the traders demanded that the accused be arrested.

Internet services temporarily were also suspended for the next 24 hours in Udaipur district, following the incident of murder of a man in the city.

Here's what police and CM Ashok Gehlot said

Udaipur Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Choudhary said few accused have been identified and a thorough probe will be conducted.

“A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams have been constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act,” Choudhary said.

District Collector of Udaipur Tara Chand Meena urged people to maintain peace and law and order.

“I appeal to all to maintain peace and law and order. The affected family will be provided help from the government. Stringent action will be taken against the accused,” he said.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot promised the strictest action against the culprits and said the police will go to the bottom of the matter.

“I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace. Strictest punishment will be given to every person involved in such heinous crime,” he said.

The BJP had suspended party spokesperson Nupur Sharma earlier this month for her controversial remarks during a TV debate.

The deceased, a tailor by profession, had posted a social media post in solidarity with Nupur Sharma about ten days ago. Since then, he was receiving a constant stream of death threats for simply extending his support to a lady targeted by the extremists provoked by Mohammed Zubair, Alt News co-founder who has been recently arrested.  Mohammed Zubair has dog-whistled her for her comments on Prophet Muhammad.

Reports said that with Teli's murder, the Islamists extracted the first pound of flesh after being triggered by Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, who sparked a raging controversy after sharing a truncated video of Nupur Sharma's comments on Times Now debate and accused her of making derogatory remarks against the Prophet.
