Noida, Oct 18: A Karnataka-cadre IPS officer and six others have been booked in Noida on charges of dowry harassment, domestic violence, and other offences following a complaint by his wife, police said on Saturday.
According to officials, the FIR was filed by Dr. Kriti Singh, a resident of Sector 128, Noida, against her husband Shivanshu Rajput, a 2019-batch IPS officer currently posted in Bengaluru. The case also names his father, mother, brother, sister-in-law, and two friends as co-accused.
“The FIR has been registered under Sections 85, 115(2), 352, 351(2), 3(5), and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections *3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961,” said Bhupendra Kumar, Station In-Charge, Sector 126 Police Station. (Agencies)
In her detailed 41-page complaint filed on October 16, Singh alleged she faced continuous dowry demands and physical as well as mental abuse since her marriage in December 2021, held at a five-star hotel in Agra. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son, police said.
She claimed her family spent over ₹2 crore on the wedding, including jewellery and other expenses, but her in-laws allegedly kept demanding additional dowry. Singh also accused her husband of having extra-marital relationships and threatening to abandon her when she confronted him.
“The investigation is underway, and statements of both the complainant and the accused will be recorded soon,” the station in charge added. (Agencies)
