Infiltration bids foiled along LoC

Tawi, Nov. 24: Hours after the Army launched a counter-offensive against Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) after three Indian soldiers were killed, the Army claims to have foiled two infiltration bids in north .

The infiltration bids were foiled in the Gulmarg and Nowgam sectors. These are manned by the Army's Baramulla-based 19 Infantry Division.

The Army said the first attempt to breach the LoC was made in the Gulmarg sector, 60 km from Srinagar, late on Wednesday when soldiers noticed suspected movement of militants.

“As the group whose number could not be established was challenged, they opened fire triggering a gunfight. The exchange continued for some time and militants were pushed back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK),” sources said. A massive search operation was also carried out in the sector after the brief gunfight.

In the wee hours on Thursday, another infiltration bid was foiled in the Nowgam sector, nearly 120 km northwest of Srinagar. Here also the militants fled back to PoK after the Army fired upon them.

The Army said it suffered no casualty during these two operations.

The infiltration attempts were foiled in the sectors that did not witness border escalation after the mutilation of a soldier and killing of two others in Machil in Kupwara district on Tuesday. A day after the beheading of the soldier, the Army launched massive fire assault on Pakistani posts in the Keran, Machil and Gurez sectors and caused “substantive damage” in PoK.

After the LoC escalation, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of and Pakistan spoke to each other over the telephonic hotline on Wednesday.
