Jammu Tawi, July 31: India has toughened its stand vis-à-vis
Pakistan and is not willing to engage Islamabad in any bilateral
dialogue.
An indication to this effect was available when the Ministry
of External Affairs made it clear that during SAARC meeting in
Pakistan, which is to be attended by India Home Minister, Rajnath
Singh, the union Home Minister will not hold any bilateral talks with
Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif.
Even if Nawaz Sharif meets Rajnath during the SAARC meet it
would be simply customary handhake from Rajnath Singh.
India has stated that Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who will be in
Pakistan on August 4, will not be having any bilateral talks with his
Pakistani counterpart.
The Ministry of External Affairs, which had yesterday confirmed the
Home Minister's visit to Pakistan, has pointedly stated that the
minister's visit is to attend a “multilateral event” and should be
looked at from that perspective.
However, a few media reports today indicated that the minister was
likely to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and have bilateral
talks with his Pakistani counterpart during his visit.
Reports said that New Delhi has remained upset and enraged
over the stand taken by Pakistan in exporting terror to Jammu and
Kashmir. Not only this, New Delhi believes that Islamabad has been
providing moral and diplomatic support to separatists. And the same
Islamabad, its Army and the ISI were providing moral and material
support to militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
The real reason for India's anger is the continued violence
and shutdown in Kashmir which has support from Pakistani
agencies. Hence India has no need for reopening channels of dialogue
with Pakistan.
