Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Minister Naeem Akhter will skip the inaugural function in the wake of the volatile situation in the Valley.
“The ad interim campus for the IIT-Jammu will be inaugurated by the HRD Minister on August 6 at 10.30 am. A total of 90 students have been enrolled at the IIT-Jammu —- 30 each in computer science and engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering,” said Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education and Technical Education.
Priya Sethi, who visited the ad interim campus to inspect its readiness to host students for the upcoming 2016-17 session, said the establishment of the IIT had fulfilled a long-pending demand of the Jammu region.
On the invitation cards printed by the administration for the inaugural function, the names of Chief Minister and the Education Minister were missing, giving a clear indication that they would not be a part of the function which would be presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.
