Top officers enter self quarantine

A senior IAS officer, at Comm Secy rank, who returned from Srinagar on Saturday has been hospitalized at Sri Mat Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. A few days ago, wife and son of an advisor to the Lieutenant Governor contracted Covid-19. The role of the officer was to handle and arrange incoming stranded at Srinagar airport as the Nodal Officer.

The officer was a part of a high-level meet headed by a financial commissioner in Jammu, a principal secretary, a senior bureaucrat in the disaster management authority and officials from and medical department, said sources have revealed.

In consequence to this, 5 top ranking IAS officers, several officials of civil administration and health department enter self-quarantine routine, sources have revealed.

A senior official from government medical college and hospital, who attended the meeting said, “I entered home quarantine as soon as I came to know that the IAS official has tested positive.”

The sample of the senior IAS officer was taken for testing last evening after he came back to Jammu from Srinagar.

“Other senior officials include a divisional commissioner, heads of health and medical education department, principal of GMC Jammu, directors of national health mission, health services, medical supplies corporation, microbiologist and epidemiologist,” said the official.

A senior doctor said, “The senior IAS officer, who had given his sample for Covid-19 test, should not have attended the meeting. He behaved carelessly and has put others at risk.”

Those asked to go under self-quarantine include two Principal Secretaries , one Secretary, two Managing Directors including an IAS officer, a divisional level top IAS officer from Jammu, a Director from Health Department, Principal of the Medical College Hospital.

All the contacts of the covid positive top IAS officer in Srinagar administration, and health department have also been told to go for self-quarantine, the sources told.
