NEW DELHI, Nov 26 — Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday called on lawmakers to uphold the tradition of constructive and dignified debates set by the Constituent Assembly during its deliberations on the Indian Constitution 75 years ago. Speaking at an event to kick-start year-long celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption, Birla emphasized the hard work and dedication of the Constituent Assembly members, who, over nearly three years, crafted a Constitution that reflects India’s geographic and social diversity.
“The traditions of constructive and dignified debates that characterized the Constituent Assembly should be followed in our respective Houses as well,” Birla said, urging members to maintain the dignity and integrity of parliamentary discussions.
Highlighting the significance of the Constituent Assembly’s approach to debates, Birla noted that members of that historic body shared their views with mutual respect, and stressed that this tradition of respectful discourse should continue in today’s legislative proceedings.
