Hizbul owns attack on Army convoy in Baramulla

SRINAGAR: Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) today claimed responsibility for ambushing an Army convoy in north district of Baramulla, resulting in killing of two soldiers and a policeman.

“The attack on Indian troopers was carried out by special squad of the HM in the wee hours in north Kashmir,” a HM spokesperson told local media.

He said five army men were killed and several other were injured in the attack, adding the outfit will intensify its operation in the coming days. However, official sources said two Army personnel and state police constable were killed and three soldiers were injured in a militant ambush at Khawajabagh in Baramulla on Srinagar-Uri highway.

“The militants have managed to escape under the cover of darkness,” they added.

The attack came two days after militants attacked a CRPF party at Nawahatta in the SeK on August 15 in which a Commanding officer from Jharkhand was killed and nine other security force personnel were injured.    Two foreign militants involved in the attack were also killed in the retaliatory fire by security forces.

Five foreign militants were also killed in the same day near Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector after they infiltrated into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
