Srinagar, Mar 08 (KNS): Though the weatherman has predicted four days of wet spell across the state, the intermittent rains Wednesday lashed plains while the higher reaches of the Valley witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall.

The weatherman had predicted heavy to heavy rains in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches in next four days.

The intermittent continued to lash Valley since the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday while the higher reaches of the Valley received fresh snowfall in this afternoon.

The intermittent rains have resulted in the water logging in the City areas here thereby resulted in the inconvenience to the residents.

The residents while talking to KNS said that the authorities have failed to look into the plights faced by the people. “The chocked drainage system in our areas usually results in immense hardships whenever it rains,” the residents said.

Accusing Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for ignoring their plights, the residents of several City areas including Habba Kadal, Baba Demb, Fateh Kadal, Khanyar and others here have demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.

They appealed to the newly appointed SMC commissioner, Dr Shafqat Khan to look into the matter and redress their grievances at earliest.

Meanwhile, following the slippery conditions of the roads triggered due to the rainfall, the 300 km long Srinagar- highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the country was closed by the authorities.

“The highway was closed in the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday following the slippery conditions of roads at Ramban area,” the official in the traffic department told KNS.

He said that some of the vehicles are also stranded on the roads and will be allowed to ply towards their destination after the roads will be cleared. (KNS)
