Srinagar, Sept 2: The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir for the next 60 hours, warning of potential flooding, cloudbursts, and landslides.
Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif said parts of the Jammu region are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with water levels in rivers and streams expected to rise, possibly crossing flood alarm levels. In Kashmir, moderate rainfall is expected, though higher reaches of Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, and the Pir Panjal mountains may witness heavy showers. The Jhelum river level is also predicted to increase significantly.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds are possible in isolated places, while flash floods and swelling of streams cannot be ruled out. Mountain passes are expected to remain highly vulnerable to landslides and falling stones.
Authorities have advised residents and travelers to exercise caution, avoid risky areas, and remain alert during this period of intense weather.
