Govt Working To Minimise Impact Of Global Conflicts, Cong Trying To Create Panic: PM

SILCHAR, Mar 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Centre was working to minimise the impact of global conflicts on citizens, while accusing the Indian National Congress of acting irresponsibly by trying to create panic in the country.

Addressing a public meeting in Silchar, Assam, Modi said the world was witnessing wars and tensions, but the government was focused on shielding people from their adverse effects.

“As the world is facing wars, our effort is to minimise their impact on the people of the country. The Congress should have performed the role of a responsible political party, but it failed to do so. It is trying to create panic among the people,” he alleged.

The prime minister also accused the Congress of lacking vision for both Assam and the nation and claimed the opposition party was only spreading rumours and misinformation to mislead the public.

Modi further alleged that the Congress had historically ignored the Northeast and allowed the drawing of a border during Independence that cut off Barak Valley’s access to the sea.

“Barak Valley was once a major hub of trade and commerce and known as an industrial centre. But Congress policies weakened the region after Independence,” he said, adding that successive Congress governments did little to promote development in the area.

The BJP-led government, he said, is now working to change that and ensure growth and connectivity in the region.

Modi also alleged that the Congress had misled the youth of Assam in the past by pushing them towards violence and terrorism, while the BJP had created opportunities and a more stable environment for them.

“Where Congress stops thinking, we start working,” he said, adding that the BJP’s guiding principle is to prioritise regions and communities that were left behind in development. (Agencies)
