SRINAGAR: Government on Sunday attached a top IAS officer to the General Administration Department, who reportedly attempted suicide few days ago.
Sources said the Government took a serious note after the PDP lawmaker Javid Mustafa Mir on Saturday raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly than an IAS officer attempted suicide, who is in-charge of a very sensitive district of Kashmir.
Mir, while quoting a report of a local daily demanded the investigation into the matter. “Tell us what were the reasons that official attempted suicide. Are they taught to do so. Such sensitive posting should not be given to such officials who may also threat to others,” demanded Mir.
After which Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi directed the government not to give sensitive posting for such officer. While on Sunday, sources said government issued the order for attaching the said officer to the General Administration Department. However, government has not given any reasons for her attachment.
Sources said the said officer a few days back attempted suicide and the matter was hushed up given the sensitivity of the issue.
On the fateful day the senior IAS officer returned home after office hours and was joined by another colleague, also a senior IAS officer.
After some time the visiting officer left the residence of his colleague seeming visibly upset.
Sometime later, sources say that the domestic help of the officer in residence noticed that there was no sound emanating from the officers room.
On checking the premises the helper was shocked to find the officer lying semi-conscious with blood flowing from the wrists.
He immediately alerted the rest of the officer's staff and the officer was rushed to the nearby government hospital where luckily for him the doctor who was on duty happened to be a surgeon who immediately patched up the wounds and stopped the bleeding.
Sources maintain that had the officer arrived at the hospital just a few minutes later, it is almost certain that officer would not have survived.
Furthermore, the Police are also likely to question the visiting IAS officer after whose visit the officer attempted suicide.
