The Doda Administration deserves a pat for imposing an immediate ban on the storage, sale, display and distribution of ‘Cool Lip’ as this product was posing a big challenge to the health of the community especially the young generation.
Reportedly, the District Administration has announced this ban to safeguard public health. It is worthwhile to ponder over the issue because this tobacco product lately turned out to be the first choice of many especially the school going children thus posing a grave risk to the health of people as tobacco usage is allegedly injurious to health.
The government’s stand to ban the aforesaid tobacco product after it was observed that a large number of people have become habitual and children are getting addicted to the same should be taken as positively and it is advisable for other districts to follow the suit and go for similar bans and implementing the same in letter and spirit.
It is pertinent to mention that tobacco is behind many types of cancers and other diseases making it one of the major causes of preventable deaths in India. The complications associated with tobacco use are known to one and all as many precious lives have been lost due to diseases caused by this dangerous product available in abundance. What makes it more dangerous is the fact that tobacco is harmful in both ways viz when taken in by smoking or even without smoking, like in the case of Cool Lip which lately has become favourite of many in the UT.
All said and done, it is advisable to avoid tobacco in all its forms. Awareness, education, and the government’s strong policies are vital for protecting public health and the step taken by the Doda administration in this context is quite prolific and good for making the public hale and hearty.
It is therefore, time for all to support this initiative by the Doda Administration and say no to tobacco in all forms. The people should not oppose this move by the government because for taking such moves the leadership requires determination and strong resolve, which luckily, are found in abundance among the present administration’s initiatives.
