Farooq, Mehbooba hit out at Govt for preventing employees from holding demos

Date:

Srinagar, Nov 4: A day after and administration banned government employees from holding demonstrations and strikes in favour of their demands, two former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti criticised the order.

While Abdullah termed it an “injustice”, Mehbooba claimed the order reeks of a “dictatorial mindset.”

“I think this is injustice against them (employees) . As far as the NC is concerned we stand with them,” Conference President Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar.

” We appeal to the government to give them what is their basic right. If those who run the government don't work then how will the government function? I appeal to the LG to see to it and try to get rid of the difficulties of the employees,” he added.

On Friday, the J & K government warned employees against holding protests and agitation, saying such acts will attract disciplinary action.

The Peoples Democratic Party president temed the order as “outrageous.”

“LG admin's blanket ban on peaceful protests by government employees reeks of a dictatorial mindset. Stifling voices of reason in a democracy is unacceptable. Threatening them with dire consequences & disciplinary action is outrageous,” Mehbooba posted on X, while sharing the government order banning protests.

CPI(M) leader M Yusuf Tarigami, said it was yet another assault on the constitutional rights of employees.

“The order contravenes the ILO conventions to which is a party. Government employees only stage demonstrations and rallies when their legitimate and just demands are not fulfilled. The directive is yet another assault on the employees' and workers' constitutional rights,” Tarigami said on X.

According to the order, the government said it has come to fore that some employees are resorting to demonstrations and strikes in favour of certain demands.
