England’s Chris Woakes opens up on father’s death, confirms plans to return to cricket

England all-rounder set for comeback after grieving father’s tragic loss

One of England’s most experienced cricket stars has revealed the heartbreaking reason for his absence from international duties in recent times. All-rounder Chris Woakes took to social media to open up about overcoming the immense grief of losing his beloved father just last month.

In a moving social post, Woakes told fans that the past few weeks have been the “most challenging” of his life after his dad suddenly passed away in early May. He took time away from the sport to grieve with his family, who he said are all still coming to terms with the “undoubtedly hardest moments” of their lives.

While Woakes missed out on representing his country at the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, as well as the recent IPL campaign, the 35-year-old veteran assured fans he will return to action in the coming weeks. In his words, he will be back “playing cricket for Warwickshire, who my Dad loved dearly when the time is right for me and my family.”

Woakes has had a stellar international career spanning over a decade, winning the World Cup in both limited-overs formats with England. Though absent from their title defense in the West Indies, his teammates and fans eagerly await his comeback whenever he is ready to step onto the field once more. An admired cricketer as well as a family man, cricket lovers wish Woakes and his loved ones strength and healing during this difficult period.
