    Education Reform Still Sluggish

It is really a matter of great satisfaction for the people of J&K that the UT is implementing each and every recommendation made in the new education policy without any delay as things are rolling very fast towards providing meaningful education to the young lot which will also enhance the employability.

The National Education Policy 2020 no doubt is a historic turning point as it has been envisaged to reorient education from rote learning to holistic development. For Jammu and Kashmir, this policy carries even greater significance.

Education in the Union Territory has long been shaped by geographical isolation, socio-political disruptions, and deep rural-urban divides. In such a context, the NEP 2020 is not just another policy document but a roadmap to transform lives and redefine career prospects of the upcoming generation .

The question, however, is whether its vision can be translated into reality on the ground? The need of the hour is to work in the direction of making education more skill-based and enabling the youth to become more job oriented as earlier the monotonous syllabus only helped to produce a number of graduates, post graduates and even researchers with no added proficiency or skills required in the real world to accomplish job obligations.

There is no doubt in the fact that the NEP has shown the way and by properly implementing the directives given in this revolutionary education policy, much could be achieved. The government in J&K, therefore should take swiftly all the possible innovative and reformative steps to revamp the educational ecosystem as the current pace of transforming the system seems to be slow and ineffective. As unemployment is still a big problem across the nation and particularly in J&K, the implementation NEP 2020 in letter and spirit can help in tackling this issue effectively as every pass out from the educational institutions after the implementation of new education policy is bound to possess a specialization in a field that too with a proper certification authenticating his or her employability parameters to ensure justice as far as getting jobs is concerned.

There is no doubt that the NEP 2020 is a revolutionary policy having a capability to change the entire higher educational ecosystem in India with focus on flexibility, multidisciplinary avenues and fairness to all. There is no dearth of jobs in the private sector, as sky is the limit out there but what is lacking in the youths of J&K is the job oriented knack and the proficiency in the skills to outclass their counterparts from other states.

It is the right time for the government to make the NEP 2020 a strong base for the children of J&K to become elite competitors in the job-world of today where there is cut throat competition.
