In a tragic turn of events, four brave Indian Army personnel lost their lives combatting heavily armed terrorists in the dense forests near Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter unfolded late on Monday night when a joint search operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Desa forest area.
After an initial exchange of fire, the terrorists fled into the challenging terrain attempting escape. Undeterred, the brave troops including an officer gave pursuit despite the difficult conditions. Another confrontation ensued deep in the woods around 9pm. During the fierce gunbattle, five soldiers were critically injured while fighting to neutralize the terrorist threat. Sadly, four of the injured personnel including the leading officer eventually succumbed to their wounds.
The remote location combined with thick foliage made engaging the terrorists a Herculean task. However, the forces showed courage and commitment in hunting the terrorists through the night. While their valiant efforts were not enough to save their fellow soldiers, the operation demonstrated India’s unwavering resolve to counter terrorism.
