Jammu Tawi: Sunil Dimple, president of Mission Statehood, met Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Javed Rana on Monday to discuss several critical issues concerning the region, including water shortages, unemployment, and the restoration of statehood.
During the half-hour meeting, Dimple raised concerns about the acute shortage of drinking water and electricity in Jammu, especially during Ramzan and Shivratri. He urged the government to begin work on the Akhnoor-Chenab water supply project to address the crisis. Dimple also criticized the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for lacking its own water tankers.
Sunil Dimple further called for the assembly to pass a bill to ban the sale of liquor in Jammu and Kashmir, and to reintroduce the Darbar Move in April. He emphasized the need for 200 units of free electricity, 12 LPG cylinders, and a commitment to address the delay in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Another major issue raised by Dimple was the rising unemployment rate. He demanded that the government fulfill its promise of providing one lakh jobs annually to the youth and regularize workers in various sectors, including seasonal teachers, daily wagers in PHE, PDD, and PWD, as well as other contractual staff.
Minister Javed Rana assured Dimple that the government is committed to solving these issues, particularly addressing unemployment and water supply concerns. He also confirmed that restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood remains a priority, as outlined in their manifesto.
