Jammu Tawi: Sunil Dimple, President of Mission Statehood, led a strong protest rally in Jammu, demanding the passage of a bill in the state assembly to ban the sale of liquor in Jammu and Kashmir. The rally, held at Janipur High Court Road, aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing issue and call for action from the government.
Dimple criticized the lack of support from political parties in passing the bill, despite repeated requests to halt e-tenders for wine shops for the 2025-26 period. He alleged that the infighting among MLAs in the assembly was being used to divert attention from the real issue — the need to ban liquor sales in the region.
“If the bill is not passed in the assembly, we will start a Jammu Kashmir-wide agitation,” Dimple warned, calling on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take immediate action by stopping the e-tenders and banning liquor sales.
Dimple also expressed dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs for not supporting the bill, criticizing them for not fighting for the public cause in the assembly. He accused the political parties of focusing on mudslinging instead of addressing the issue at hand.
Further, Dimple made a series of demands, including waiving off pending electricity bills for poor families, providing free drinking water, offering twelve free LPG gas cylinders, doubling the ration for families, and providing 200 units of free electricity in metered areas. He also called for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, the revival of the Darbar Move in April 2025, and the nomination of a Jammu Dogra in the Rajya Sabha.
Several other leaders, including Papu Kumar Virdi, Mohan Lal, and Vikas Kumar, participated in the protest.
