New Delhi, Dec 31: Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) were severely hit on Wednesday as dense fog and low visibility led to the cancellation of at least 148 flights and delays to over 150 others.
According to officials, 78 arriving and 70 departing flights were cancelled, while two flights were diverted from the national capital’s airport, which is operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL).
In a morning post on X, DIAL said visibility conditions were gradually improving, though some flight disruptions could continue. It added that on-ground teams are coordinating with all stakeholders to assist passengers and ensure necessary support across terminals.
Meanwhile, the civil aviation ministry said fog conditions prevailing in parts of northern India may affect flight operations at select airports. In a post on X, the ministry said airlines have been directed to strictly follow passenger service norms, including timely information, assistance during delays, rebooking or refunds where applicable, and baggage facilitation.
IGIA handles nearly 1,300 flight movements daily. (Agencies)
