    Defacing city will entail jail besides heavy fine

    JMC proposes heavy penalties for violation of municipal rules

    Jammu Tawi, Apr 08: Going tough against illegal hoardings, violation of municipal rules, besides keeping Jammu, the city of temples, neat, clean and green, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has now proposed hefty penalties against the violators much more than they earlier used to be.

     

    The JMC has now proposed a hefty fine of upto Rs 50,000 against the people/firms indulged in illegal hoardings in the municipal limits without prior permission besides disposing off garbage in the open.

     

    Now, the JMC has decided to go tough against those involved in defacing the public property, encroachment and pasting the advertising material in its limits without the prior permission.

     

    Those indulged in Illegal pasting of advertising material like posters, hoardings, like that of coaching centers, gyms, schools, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, shops etc on the poles, walls, bridges, government buildings and defacing other public places without prior permission of the JMC will now be fined upto Rs 50,000 and will also be jailed, the JMC spokesperson said.       

     

    The JMC has also directed the people/firms/agencies/individuals to remove all kinds of defacement material with immediate effect failing which the corporation will remove it and the cost along with fine will be realized from those involved in this illegal work.   

     

    It may be mentioned that the JMC has pressed into service various vehicles in all the 75 wards for door to door garbage collection.  

     

    Apart from this, the JMC will also now go strict against encroachments in the city and the violators will be fined Rs 20,000.

     

    “The penalties for violation of municipal rules, encroachments, illegal hoardings, have already come into force and the field staff and the officers have been directed to act tough against violators,” the spokesman said.

     

    Meanwhile, sources said that a Delhi based company has secured the tender from the JMC for around Rs 6 crore for advertisements in the municipal limits.

     

    All around the city and its outskirts, numerous illegal advertisement hoardings, pamphlets and other advertising material could be seen without prior permission.

     

    Owing to the mounting pressure from this Delhi based company, the JMC decided to go tough against such scattered advertisements/things which were causing big financial loss to the Delhi based company, which secured the tender for advertisements in a special tender-terms managed by the company that eliminated any competition from the local participants.   

     

    The JMC has also proposed a hefty fine on spitting in the open and those indulged in this will be fined Rs 5000.

     

    Heavy fine will also now be imposed on the people who take water and sewerage connection without prior permission of the JMC. The civic body has also proposed heavy financial penalty against the people found to be habitual offenders of municipal rules.

     

    The people/firms found to be habitual offenders of municipal rules will now be fined on a daily basis. Having water and sewrage connection without prior permission of the JMC will invite a fine of Rs 25,000.  

     

    Apart from this, keeping the dangerous animals at homes as pets will also invite Rs 10,000 fine and the people feeding animals with harmful things will also be fined Rs 5,000.
