    Cross-Border Arms, Drug Racket Cracked in Amritsar; Five Arrested

    Chandigarh, Feb 9: Punjab Police on Monday busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module in Amritsar, arresting five persons and recovering weapons, heroin and cash, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said.

    Police seized six pistols, 10 live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin and Rs 11.90 lakh in drug money from the accused during the operation.

    Sharing details on X, the DGP said that in an intelligence-led operation under #GangstranTeVaar, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled an active cross-border arms and narcotics network and apprehended five accused with significant recoveries.

    Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested persons were in touch with a cross-border smuggling syndicate and were actively involved in illegal trafficking of arms and drugs, Yadav said.

    An FIR has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the network, he added. (Agencies)
