Jammu Tawi, May 18: Police on Monday detained a criminal under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA) over his repeated involvement in violent criminal activities in Jammu and lodged him in District Jail Bhaderwah, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, Vikash Singh alias Vinay, son of Balbir Singh, is a resident of Bomal village of Akhnoor in Jammu district, officials said.
They said Singh was continuously involved in offences posing a serious threat to public peace and order in the Akhnoor area and had a history of involvement in multiple criminal cases registered at Akhnoor Police Station.
The cases against him include assault, criminal intimidation, rioting and violations under the Arms Act, officials said.
Despite repeated legal action, the accused allegedly continued his criminal activities, creating fear and insecurity among the public, police said.
In view of his repeated involvement in heinous offences, police submitted a dossier to the Jammu district magistrate, recommending his detention under the PSA, they said.
Following the issuance of formal detention orders by the district magistrate, Singh was detained and shifted to Bhaderwah district jail, officials added.
Jammu (Rural) Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order and taking strict action against habitual offenders and criminal elements.
