Jammu, Dec 25 (UNI) Furious over ‘chaos’ at Covid testing counters, hundreds of travellers, who were lined up for testing, vandalized the counters at Lakhanpur in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Notably, Kathua district administration has made Covid Testing mandatory for all travelers at Lakhanpur entering the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory from other states.
Lakhanpur is located on J&K-Punjab Border and serves as the entry point to Jammu Kashmir.
Official sources said that protesting against the decision alleging mess at the counters, the travelers, who were standing in queue for long hours waiting for their turn for Covid testing, ‘pelted stones at the staff and also ransacked the counters’.
“The protestors claimed that despite double dose vaccination, they were made to stand for hours in queue for testing which made them angry and they started protesting,” they said, adding that the situation took an ugly turn when ‘they started pelting stones’.
Many workers of the health department besides some cops suffered injuries during the incident.
However, the staff demanding security at the counters later refused to join duties alleging that their lives are under threat if such incidents are frequently repeated.
Meanwhile, police contingents immediately swung into action and dispersed the protestors to pacify the situation.
