Congress-NC to take on PDP jointly in LS by-poll

Tawi, March 10 (KIP):-Will Congress and the opposition parties forge an alliance for contesting by-poll on Srinagar and Anantnag  Lok Sabha constituencies? This question has assumed importance after the Election Commission of announced the schedule for the two LS constituencies.

During the last two years, since the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition Government the Conference and the Congress have been working at tandem to create problem for the PDP.

Senior Congress and the NC leaders believe that it is not easy to defeat the PDP in the Lok Sabha seats in Srinagar and Anantnag and if the two join hands the PDP can did ates may taste their defeat.

Under a proposal in case the alliance between the NC and the Congress materialized the Congress may give the NC Srinagar seat to contest and while the Congress would try its luck in Anantnag constituency.

The PDP is fielding its candidates from both the seats and in the absence of Hameed Karra who joined the congress the PDP may field some recently sacked minister.Since the state unit of the Congress is not willing to field Karra in Srinagar the Congress may give this seat to the NC for securing NC's support in Anantnag for the PDP candidate.

As the Election Commission of India today announced the schedule for the by-elections to the Srinagar and Anantnag Lok Sabha constituencies, the Congress initiated the process to go for seat adjustment with the National Conference.

Highly placed sources said the Congress leadership would offer one parliamentary seat to the NC to give a tough fight to the PDP-BJP coalition in the by-elections, which are perceived as a test of popularity of the PDP in the Valley after the 2016 summer unrest.

“It is too early to say anything. The state leadership of the party has been authorized to take a final call on the by-elections,” AICC general secretary Ambika Soni, who is in charge of the J&K Congress, told media.

“The decision in this regard will be taken within a couple of days,” she said, adding that Tariq Hamid Karra, one of the founder members of the PDP who had joined the Congress recently, would also be taken on board before taking any final decision.

However, Jammu and Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir did not divulge much about the party's plan. He simply spoke about “coordination” between the Congress and the NC to avoid division of votes. “As the schedule for the by-elections was announced this morning only, we will sit together and devise a strategy for the polls,” said Mir while alleging that the PDP-BJP government had brazenly made every effort possible to get the by-elections delayed (KIP)
