Jammu, Feb 19: Congress MLAs Irfan Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed on Thursday staged a protest outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, alleging harassment of Kashmiris outside the Union Territory and demanding immediate intervention to stop such incidents.
Holding a pamphlet reading “Stop harassment of Kashmiris”, Lone and Ahmed demonstrated on the assembly stairs and were joined by party MLAs from Rajouri. They said the issue would be raised in the House.
The legislators referred to alleged harassment of Kashmiri nursing students at a university in Rajasthan, claiming the students were assaulted during protests over course recognition. Four students were injured and a female student was manhandled, they alleged.
Lone and Ahmed also sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure the safety of Kashmiris outside J&K. (Agencies)
