Asks Irrigation & Flood Control Department to utilize machinery in double shift to expedite de-silting
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti has directed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to expedite the dredging work in the river Jhelum and crucial flood channels on war-footing to ensure that the flood like situations of 2014 is not repeated at any cost in future.
Reviewing the progress of dredging, the Chief Minister directed that all dredging machines brought in from outside the State must be utilized in double shift to achieve substantial progress on de-silting on urgent basis.
Elaborating further, the Secretary Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Mr. Sanjeev Verma said two heavy dredging machines have already arrived in Kashmir and are deployed at Shivpora and Sopore stretches of river Jhelum. He further informed that two more machines are likely to arrive from Kolkatta in next few days which will result in visible progress on dredging front in river Jhelum.
Mr. Verma has appealed to all sections of the society to cooperate in order to ensure that dredging work progresses smoothly and no difficulties are faced in the movement of labor and technical staff. This is essential to save the society from any flood disaster like 2014, he said.
