CBSE exam likely in July

Date:

The CBSE board exam 2021 will not be cancelled and the exam will be most likely held in July like last year amidst Covid protocols, sources confirmed the decision taken at the high-level meeting today between the Centre and the states which is now over.

Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will share more information about format and also the CBSE Class 12 board exam dates on June 1.

The option of holding CBSE board exams in 19 major subjects was discussed and found support from many states. For other subjects, a different way will be found for evaluation such as internal assessments.

Another option has been discussed at the meeting as well — holding shorter 90-minute exams for major subjects in schools.

The states have been asked to provide their views on the options in the coming week. A detailed statement will be issued soon.

The decision was taken after more than a month of uncertainty regarding the conduct of the Class 12 CBSE board exam 2021.

Students, teachers and parents had regularly taken to Twitter calling for the cancellation of the Class 12 board exams because of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the second wave, especially of younger people and even children.

Who all attended the meeting?

The high-level meeting conducted on Sunday was chaired by Minister Rajnath Singh. In attendance were Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Women and Child Smriti Zubin Irani, and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Also present were the education ministers of all states, and the education secretaries and chairpersons of the state examination boards.

Besides, the union education minister had asked teachers, students, parents and others to share their valuable suggestions regarding the board exams and other exams on his Twitter handle.

As Ramesh Pokhriyal said, this is because PM Narendra Modi asked for “wide consultations” with everyone before a final decision was taken on the CBSE board exam 2021.
