Cabinet clears Rs 1,650 crore for new LPG connections, also approves phase-III of e-Courts project

Date:

New Delhi, Sep 13: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the extension of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for release of 75 lakh LPG connections over three years with total financial implication of Rs 1,650 crore.

A targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for upto 12 refills per year is being provided to PMUY consumers.

“LPG connections to poor households will provide access to clean cooking fuel and help in addressing problems caused by use of traditional sources of cooking fuel such as fire-wood, coal, cowdung etc,” a government release said.

Providing relief to households ahead of festive as well as poll season, the central government had last month announced to reduce the price of domestic LPG cylinders by Rs 200.

In its meeting today, the Cabinet also approved the eCourts Project Phase III as a Central Sector Scheme spanning four years (2023 onwards) with financial outlay of Rs 7210 crore.

As part of the eGovernance Plan, the e-Courts Project has been under implementation since 2007 for ICT enablement of the Indian Judiciary, the Phase II of which has concluded in 2023.

“Phase III of the e-Courts Project in is rooted in the philosophy of “access and inclusion”, said the official release.

The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of eCourts Phase III is being implemented under the joint partnership of Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India and eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, in a decentralized manner through the respective High Courts to develop a judicial system that would promote ease of justice by making the system more accessible, affordable, reliable, predictable, and transparent for all stakeholders.
