Budget session back after the break

Tawi, January 8: The J&K Legislature session will resume on Mondy after a break of five consecutive days. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is expected to reply on a discussion on unrest and civilian killings.

Combined Opposition National Conference (NC), Congress, CPI (M), JKPDF and Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid are up in arms against the government over what they called Kashmir unrest and showed their aggressive posture during the first two days of the session.

On Tuesday, when the Legislative Assembly last met, the Opposition forced the government to accept the adjournment motions over Kashmir situation and civilian killings and a discussion was started. Former CM and NC working president Omar Abdullah had taken the charge from the opposition side whereas Congress Legislature Party leader Nawang Rigzin Jora, CPI (M) MLA Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, PDF MLA Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen also spoke during the discussion.

As the CM couldn't reply to the discussion on Tuesday due to her prior schedule, she will respond to the allegations levelled by opposition members and steps taken by the government during the five-month-long unrest in the Kashmir valley to bring normalcy back.

During the off days, the Valley and higher reaches of the Jammu region were lashed with snow whereas the winter capital and Jammu plains witnessed heavy rain after three months of dry period. Snow and rain exposed the government and administration as both were missing from the ground.

As the Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the as the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was blocked, erstwhile district Doda also remained cut from the winter capital and other parts of the state. There was no road connectivity and people suffered. Electricity also remained a cause of concern as many places in the Valley are still without electricity for over 48 hours now. These issues are likely to be raised in the Assembly tomorrow.

Meanwhile, discussion on Motion of Thanks on the Governor's address is likely to begin tomorrow and will culminate on Tuesday. Budget presentation has been delayed by a day.
