“Gujarati bride shines bright in heritage inspired goldwork ensemble for her vidai”
Radhika Merchant left everyone stunned as she embraced her Gujarati roots for her vidai ceremony. Opting for traditional Kutchi embroidery known as ‘Karchobi’, the bride’s exquisite blouse featured intricate gold work.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Radhika’s blouse paid homage to the rich textile legacy of Kutch in Gujarat. The fine gold embroidery showcased the craftsmanship of the late 19th century. Multi hued sunset hued lehenga and a striking red Benarasi veil completed her heritage inspired look.
Radhika accentuated her ensemble with heirloom jewellery. She re-wore her sister Anjali’s wedding choker highlighting sisterhood. Heavy kadas, matha patti, haath phool and maang tika highlighted her bridal glow.
Karchobi work originated in Kutch and involves embroidery using gold threads on silk and velvet. It is an intricate branch of Aari embroidery unique to the region. Radhika’s outfit embraced this traditional handicraft maintaining the celebrations’ ethnic roots.
The bride looks ethereal balancing traditional charm and contemporary glamour. Her vidai attire makes a strong case for reviving India’s rich cultural heritage on noteworthy occasions.
