    Bolstering Defence Capabilities

Modern day warfare requires multifaceted capabilities to effectively counter the enemies of the nation. Focusing on this situation, India has been continuously working to bolster its defence and attacking capabilities.

In the same context, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three successive flight-trials of Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. These tests were carried out to revalidate the capability of VSHORADS missile system in neutralising high-speed threats flying at varying speeds, ranges, and altitudes. Such defensive systems have become a must for containing the damage during hostilities with the neighbouring countries as today the situation with regard to peace in the region has become crucial. Pakistan is the most notorious country in the Indian Sub-Continent because it propels terrorism on different soils and also engages in wars with countries like India and now Afghanistan.

With neighbours like Pakistan and China and to some extent Bangladesh also, it becomes necessary that India should remain stout and war-ready all the time because no one can predict when one of these countries starts hostilities with India. As far as the number of wars which India fought with Pakistan in the past is concerned, it was the rogue country that started the conflict forcing Bharat to respond.

Till date, it has always been India that has trounced Pakistan in wars but with changing times, it is imperative to bolster defence in a failsafe manner and also enhance its offensive capabilities to deter hostile neighbours.

It is good that India has achieved success in aforesaid flight tests as missiles intercepted and destroyed the high-speed aerial targets mimicking enemy aircrafts in various threat scenarios meeting all extreme engagement points. The flight data captured by various range instruments like Telemetry, Electro-Optical Tracking System and Radars deployed by ITR, Chandipur, validated the effectiveness of VSHORADS against a wide range of aerial threats. These user validation flight-trials were carried out in the presence of the representatives of Joint Forces along with senior officials from DRDO and development cum production partners. It is good that India is indigenously preparing for military conflicts because this holds much significance as far as saving of money and resources is concerned.

It is pertinent to mention that VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence system designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Development cum Production Partners. The missile system has the capability to meet the needs of all the three branches of the Armed Forces, viz. Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, making it a vital system to show enemies where they stand.

It is necessary that India should spend a good amount on research and development of arms and ammunition besides such systems to keep the country strong under the shadow of neighbours inimical to peace in the region.
