Srinagar: Tariq Hamid Karra, who has resigned from the PDP Tuesday, claimed that he was offered tonnes of rupees and chief minister post by the top brass of BJP to come forward and form government in J&K.

Addressing a press conference here, Karra, who remains in news for his fresh political activities and is likely to either float a new political party or join Congress or Conference (NC), said the reasons to quit from PDP was not what some people say that he was not given a ministerial berth, but there are multiple reasons, which he will reveal in the near future.

The former PDP MP said BJP would try to go to any extent to save its government in . “They (BJP) don't want to lose power in Kashmir and can take any step for this even if they have to pay crores for it,” he said.

He said he rejected BJPs offer thrice-first when former CM Mufti Sayeed was alive and then twice after Mufti's demise. “It is not any compulsion that I am against BJP. But I am by conviction against the policies of BJP and RSS”.

He said it is not ethical to reveal everything at this point of time, but in the near future he would reveal all the issue and reasons that forced him to quit PDP, the party of which he was among the founder and senior most members.

Karra, who also resigned from the MP seat, said he was offered Chief Minister's post several times by the BJP. “Before Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's death, top BJP brass asked me to take over the Chief Minister of the state saying Mufti Sahab was not keeping well. But I declined their offer,” he said. “After Mufti Sahab expired I was offer chief minister ship twice by the BJP. I didn't resign from the from the PDP and MP seat that I was not made minister but against PDP's alliance with the BJP,” he said.

In the last Parliamentary elections, Tariq Hamid Karra contested from Srinagar Parliamentary seat and defeated NC President Farooq Abdullah with a margin of 41913 votes. Karra had fought then elections on PDP ticket while NC President faced his first ever defeat in his political career.

PDP Tariq Hamid Karra got 157546 while the NC stalwart Farooq Abdullah secured 115363 votes out of 12 lakh electorates of the constituency which recorded voting of 26 percent.

14 candidates were in the fray but the main contest was seen between the rivals NC and the PDP, Farooq Abdullah and Tariq Hamid Karra respectively. Earlier, Karra has remained the Minister of the state and was PDP's prominent from Srinagar district.
