SRINAGAR: Day after the Government Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar ruled out of allowing Abhinav Gupta Yatra, the BJP legislators slammed the government for succumbing to the pressure of separatists.

After the question hour in the Legislative Council, the BJP lawmakers stood of their seats and shouted slogans against the government of which they are part of.

“Banning Abhinav Gupt yatra is like banning Baba Nund Reshi,” BJP Legislator Ramesh Arora said, who started the protest against Naeem's statement.

Arora was supported by other legislators of his party who accused the government of succumbing under Separatist pressure. “In secular state you cannot ban religious activities. Government should immediate revoke ban and allow the yatra,” said BJP's Ashok Khajurie.

Naeem on Thursday said that it won't allow Abhinav Gupt Yatra. “We won't allow it (yatra). Government won't allow any non-traditional or unconventional “event” in the State,” he had said.

He had also claimed Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh has already made it clear that Government won't “allow anything that has potential to disturb peace” in J&K

Another BJP legislator, Vibod Gupta, said that Abhinav Gupt cave is a sacred place for Hindu's adding the government could not ban the devotees from visiting it. “History is the witness and this cave is mentioned in the religious scriptures and has a long history,” he said.

The BJP legislators created uproar for some time, however later the Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh who was present in the House directed them to sit on their seats. Following senior BJP minister intervention, the legislators sat down and allowed the House to proceed.
